Light the Fire!

It's that time of the year when the house is getting nippy,
the kids are fussing about being cold,
I'm nagging them to put on sweaters,
and we all love to crank the heat
or light a fire in the fireplace.

There's nothing like sitting in front of a crackling fire,
sipping a cup of hot coffee
and reading a good book.

In our case, usually a school book.

It was a Presto log,
so kinda' a tiny, lame fire,
but was the first fire of the season,
so had to be commemorated with a picture.
We snuggled in front of the meager flame,
enjoying the sound, sight and smell of fire.

When I add logs, huffing and puffing to get the embers to ignite,
I'm reminded of this spiritual admonition:

2 Timothy 1:6
For this reason I remind you to
fan into flame
the gift of God,
which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

I'm also reminded of this song,
a favorite for older campers at Story Book Lodge Christian Camp.
(this isn't our camp, just a youtube video)

Listening to 100+ teenagers sing out with passion for Jesus
every summer does fan my faith into fire.

Reading God's Word is another way to turn smoldering
embers into useful, warming flames.

Cold house?
Cold heart?

The answer is the same.

Light the fire!

What are ways you use to light the fire of faith in your life?

  1. We love a fire in the fireplace! Our first fireplace was wood burning, but our last two houses have had gas fireplaces. I loved the woodsy, smoky smell of a real fire, but I have to say that the gas is more convenient.

Hope you have a nice afternoon!

  2. I need someone to light a fire under my rump lately. ;)These cold, dark winter days are making me want to be a momma bear and sleep the winter away with my babies snuggled beside me!

Joking aside, I totally get ya. There is something magical about a fire to warm us...

  3. Well, we don't need to burn any logs to keep us warm here at the moment. 35C+ and will get much hotter, to say nothing of the humidity.
But spiritually, yes, always need to be reignited! Since my illness, I have found it hard to read, concerntrate and generally get motivated. I am attempting to get more into the Word and looking forward to a New Year to start a new Bible reading plan.

  4. love your fire!

  5. Just wanted to pop in and say hi. You are so faithful to me and my blog by always leaving comments. That is so very much appreciated. I wish I could reply directly to your comments to let you know that I read each and every one. I didn't realize how much we do have in common. It is scary! I too had Thyroid Cancer. My thyroid was removed this past summer. I have been enjoying your blog and your scripture references. They brighten my day.

Thank you so much for dropping by my blog. Your encouraging comments are much appreciated. I love hearing from others.
