“A vacation is having nothing to do
and all day to do it in.”
Robert Orben
We just returned from a one week vacation on the island of Oahu.
It was in the 80's every day.
We had no internet -
because we didn't want to pay the $16.50 a day.
We rarely turned our cell phones on.
My husband and I enjoyed having nothing to do
and all day to do nothing.
With the four kids still living at home
we toured, sunbathed, ate, sunbathed,
swam in the pools, sunbathed,
swam in the ocean, sunbathed,
read books and sunbathed some more.
With our blonde hair and fair skin,
we went through almost two bottles of sunscreen
in seven days.
People keep asking us why we aren't tan if we went to Hawaii?
We are tan.
It's just that our tan
is lighter than most people's normal coloring.
“No one needs a vacation more
than the person who just had one.”

Saturday,
we started unpacking and began the laundry.
Sunday we attended services, finished unpacking,
napped, finished the laundry and grocery shopped.
Ready or not, the new week,
and the new month,
is upon me.
Along with wanting a good attitude
to face my real life again,
to face my real life again,
I need to face the final month of school
with diligence and enthusiasm.
I want to finish strong.
Along with finishing school,
I have to continue planning for the next year.
There are summer plans to be made.
We have softball and baseball seasons
to complete.
I can't even just finish one thing and then take a rest.
For everything I cross off my list,
two or more demand to be written down.
I am rested and encouraged,
hesitantly ready for the final month.
May can be grueling, demanding
and downright exhausting.
And even though I left the warmth of
the Hawaiian sun,
I will bask in the warmth
of the Son of God,
as I get back to the frantic pace
of my real life.
