Fading and Failing Flowers

We have high ambitions of teaching our six children to answer the phone correctly
"Hello, this is the ______residence, _______ speaking."

We also have high ambitions for our children to take detailed
messages and deliver them in person with a smile.

We grill drill them on phone etiquette over and over,
cautioning about things like mouth full of marbles,
and mumbling like a teenager.

To help make message taking easier,
I found a vintage tin for paper and my daughters made cute flower pens.

Nobody should have had an excuse not to take a good message.

The problem is,
the pens ran out of ink at least two, maybe three, years ago,
and I kept running out of paper.

It became a simple project I kept putting off.

The phone messages ended up being scratched onto
random pieces of mail, napkins, receipts or any stray
piece of paper within grabbing distance of the phone.

Of course, I mean scratched,
cuz when all the pens were out of ink,
you really were scratching.

It made the ol' Abe Lincoln scratching out his math homework
on the shovel with a piece of coal,
look pretty high tech.

I just had to remember to buy a new pack of pens,

and unwrap the old pens,
saving the flowers and the leaves.

You cut off the flower stem,
leaving an inch of wire.
Using about 4-5 inches of floral tape,
you wind enough just to secure the flower to the pen.

The leaves are added a little further down from the top
then you continue winding all the way to the end.

Jon jumped in and helped finish the project in minutes.

They were finished so quickly,
I couldn't figure out why I put it off for years.

Wouldn't you know, the phone rang,
just in time for Jon to test his creations?

I saved all the bad copies from the copying machine
and cut them to fit into the old caramel can.

Handy, useful, but still vintagy and cute.

And flowers are always a great spiritual reminder -

Isaiah 40:8
The grass withers, the flower fades:
but the Word of our God shall stand for ever.

The Word of God also lasts longer than homemade flower pens.

Creation Preaches the Gospel

Creation causes worship to the Creator
in the heart of a believer.

We marvel at  His handiwork and power
displayed in every beauty around us.

Our hearts are stirred to thanksgiving and adoration.

Creation is also doing a work in the heart of unbelievers.
It's preaching the Gospel,
by proving there IS a Creator,
and that men need to answer to Him.

In fact, the salvation message in creation is SO clear,
the Bible tells us men are without excuse.

Romans 1:20
For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities
—his eternal power and divine nature—
have been clearly seen,
being understood from what has been made,
so that
men are without excuse.

Enjoy the Gospel being preached in Hawaii by the Lord's design.

Psalm 139:17-18
How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!
How great is the sum of them!

If I should count them,
they would be more in number than the sand;
When I awake, I am still with You.

Psalm 93:3
The seas have lifted up, O LORD,
the seas have lifted up their voice;
the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.

Psalm 93:4
Mightier than the thunder of the great waters,
mightier than the breakers of the sea
the LORD on high is mighty.

Job 37:13
He brings the clouds to punish men,
or to water his earth  and show his love.

Isaiah 42:12
Let them give glory to the LORD
and proclaim his praise in the islands.

Psalm 36:5-6
Your mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens;
Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
Your righteousness is like the great mountains;
Your judgments are a great deep;
O LORD, You preserve man and beast.

Psalm 50:11
I know every bird in the mountains,
and the creatures of the field are mine.

Isaiah 40:8
The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God stands forever."

His Creation not only preaches the Gospel,
it preaches His character.

He is great,
mighty,
loving,
praiseworthy,
merciful,
faithful,
righteous,
and He
stands forever.

Let's be one of His creations
that preaches His Gospel,
and displays His character.
