Be of Good Cheer

John 16:33
"These things I have spoken to you,
that in Me you may have peace.
In the world you will have tribulation;
but be of good cheer,
I have overcome the world.”

This morning I was praying and reading and asking the Lord for fresh strength and encouragement.  This verse spoke to me and my heart was immediately transformed by the promises of God.

Before He left this earth, our Savior needed  to supply the encouragement we  would need to endure the trials of life. It was just what I needed to strengthen me for the trials I am facing.

1. He warned about trials.

...you WILL have Tribulation....

He didn't say maybe, you might, it could happen, or it's a possibility, He blatantly said,  you will.

2. Then, He told us How to face tribulation.

...be of good cheer...

This means to be encouraged,  to be comforted, but actually stems from the word courage.  We are to face our trials with courage.

3. The Lord Jesus ended this sentence with the reason we can be of good cheer when we face tribulation.

I have overcome the world.

Anything we face on this earth, He has already faced and overcome. He has conquered sin and hell and death, there is nothing He didn't overcome with His resurrection.  He has already faced and overcome earth's trials, and is offering us the courage to face our tribulation.

The Lord offered this encouragement often, giving other reasons we should be of good cheer.

Matthew 9:2, "your sins are forgiven you.”

Matthew 9:22, "your faith has made you well."

Matthew 14:27, "It is I; do not be afraid."

We have the source of our courage, the Lord Jesus Christ.  Utilize all He has to offer, so that you might be able to face your tribulation with courage.
