Big Bible Jelly Belly

After seven pregnancies,
my body isn't quite the same.

There's more of it,
and it's squishier.

In fact, not to pass out TMI,
but when I sit, I have a whole new friend
that loves to lean over my belt and tickle my legs.

My youngest daughter, Rebekah, likes to come over when I am sitting,
dig her hands into the flab like she is kneeding bread dough,
and say with a smile, "This is from me, huh Mom?"

She understands and appreciates the fact that I traded my
petite I-can't-find-a-belt-small-enough-in-the-ladies-section
for the original jelly belly.

I always giggleth a little when I readeth belly in the King James Version.

Belly seems like a modern word,
not an old English thither, dither, yonder, donder kinda' word.

According to Online Bible, the definition of belly in the
KJV Bible is "belly, womb, body."

Yea, we knew that.
Nothing like looking up a word and having the definition include that word.

But, we have another belly, as you can see from these verses.

Proverbs 20:27
The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD,
searching all the inward parts of the belly.

(God is not searching inside to see what the digestive enzymes are chewing up inside your gastric membrane.)

Proverbs 20:30
The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil:
so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.
(Evil doesn't come from inside your stomach, but from your heart and mind.)

So, belly can also refer to the "seat of mental faculties,"
according to Online Bible.

My belly, the seat of my mental faculties,
knows the Lord expresses in the Bible
His understanding for all my situations.

He even understands what it feels like to have a jelly belly.

Job 32:19
Behold, my belly is as wine which hath no vent;
it is ready to burst like new bottles.

So, even though the mental belly takes an important role in my spiritual life,
I still needed help keeping my jelly belly from bursting.

I get understanding from the Bible,
but physical help from Target.

Yea, they really, really, really work.
(They can strangle a bit when you are trying to take it off,
take a deep breath before you tug it over your head.)

They are my new best friends, and I don't leave home without them.

Trust me, both your bellies will thank you.

  1. Nothing like causing a great belly laugh this morning. ;)

I loved this post. You know, Mindy, talking about belly as using the word in the definition of the word... My Scott has a thing about that too.

And, then I thought about this. You know how the heart is the seat of our emotions? Well, in some countries it's the liver or the bowels.

Can you say "oh baby, you make my liver quiver" or "honey, my bowels move for you". Sorry... it just made me think of that.

Lord knows, I could even use one of these special little belly boosters myself. I'll have to check them out.

  3. My youngest daughter also takes credit for my extra friend. And she's right. I was a size 5 (!) when I got pregnant with her, my third.

Now she is 18, size 0 or 1, and asked if I'd do the Biggest Loser 30-day challenge if she coached me. Sheesh. (PS After I said "no way," I told her I'd do part of it, as long as I didn't have to exercise.)

  5. Jelly Belly - I have some and didn't even have kids. The word talks about living water flowing out of our bellies - let it flow.
